At ground level on the back side of the Kyoto station is a shopping mall, with a whole section of small resturants with local food. It's wonderful to browse up and down and check out all the options displayed in the windows. They have noodle shops, breakfast foods, diner style restaurants, sushi restaurants, and some typical fast food mixed in. The prices at these restaurants were reasonable, especially compared to eating in the hotel.

For a great Teppanyaki restaurant, check this place out. They served a four course meal that included appetizer, soup, the main course, and dessert. The restaurant is on one of the upper floors of the Shiokoji-dori Renaissance Building. All of the seating is in a bar-like setting facing the windows, with a fantastic view of the plaza of the Bus and Train station below. Unlike some Japanese Steak Houses in America, the chef only prepared the meals per couple, so you get lots of individualized attention. For dessert we moved to small tables with comfortable chairs away from the bar area, which was very quiet and cozy.

Hayato Indian is about the best tasting Indian food you will find in Osaka, especially for the price you pay. The restaurant is small, but a great place to bring friends or business partners for lunch or parties. The chef, Netra, makes authentic cuisine and if there is something you want him to make special for you, just ask. If he has the ingredients, he will make it for you. Friendly atmosphere and great service!
Favorite Dish: The best dish on the menu is A Set. It includes nan, two dishes of curry, usually vegetable and a chicken or mutton, a salad, safron rice and Chai tea served afterwards. This dish will fill you up!
