Iga-ryu Ninja Musuem, Ueno City
This part of Japan was once known as Iga and Iga-ryu was one of the main styles of ninjitsu. This museum attempts to inform about the ninjas role as agents of espionage, rather than just acrobatic assassins. First of all is a guided tour of the genuine (albeit relocated) ninja house with it's secret doors and rooms. There is also a small museum with information and displays about the history of the ninjas, their role in Japanese history and many of their tools and weapons. For a small fee visitors can also watch a demonstration of ninja combat skills, although this is probably one for the kids if you have them with you. Overall the museum is well worth the visit, especially the displays section.
