On first glance it seemed like an ordinary small restaurant that had already seen its best times.
But when we found out that the owner is a poet and even won a price recently, it suddenly came to live. We even got the chance to talk to Takasaki Ichirou in person and he presented us some of his interviews that were published recently in 2008 in local papers. All the objects on the walls and in the shelf are items connected with him personally.
Hours of Business: The restaurant opens from 11 am till 8 pm. Saturdays it is closed.
Favorite Dish: Of course Unagi-don (Eel on top of a bowl of rice). The sauce they serve is very tasty. The price is similar to the other eel restaurants in Tsu.
When I discovered that they even serve German beer I ordered one can of Holsten from the fridge. It contains 0% alcohol so it is a perfect companion if you have to drive after your meal.
The sake served is Hanzo from the Ota Brewery in the city of Iga-Ueno in the same prefecture.

After entering the restaurant we were welcomed in Japanese AND English !! The atmosphere is friendly as the owner likes to have a chat with the customers.
Hours of Business: 11:00~18:30, it only closes on New Year's Day.
Favorite Dish: As always Unagi-don (Eel on top of a bowl of rice). As soon as we had ordered we were invited to select the eel from a bowl. If you realize that for such a simple dish like Unagi-don a WHOLE eel is required it suddenly feels like a feast. We were very surprised if we discovered that part of the eel was hidden within the rice as a separate layer, so really the amount you are being served is splendid. The price is similar to the other eel restaurants in Tsu.

Nice, Japanesey restaurant filled with tatami mats, colorful paper lanterns, huge kissing paper-mache fish, and an all you can drink coffee bar that comes with every meal. Dinner can be pricey, but the lunch sets are great! Rice, miso soup, Japanese pickles, and your choice of two or three sides for the price of 890 or 1050 yen respectively. Quick service, delicious food, no English...a real feeling of smalltown Japan.
Favorite Dish: The samma (pacific saury), the tofu, the nasubi (eggplant), the daikon sarada (white radish salad), the grilled fish, the maguro sashimi (raw tuna), umm...EVERYTHING!

This place has awesome combination plates. For 1000 yen you can get an all inclusive platter that includes a burrito, chicken soft taco, taquito, and spicy, baked potatoes. During lunch time, the platter includes a drink and a dessert at no extra cost. It pretty much rocks. Despite the inclusion of very Japanese white rice in its very Mexican burritos, Chabelita's grub still holds the title of best Mexican restaurant in Mie prefecture.
Favorite Dish: The Combination A platter is gnarly. It is just enough food to keep you full, just enough variety to keep you interested, and just enough spice to remind you of good ole' TJ. Check her out!

This is a very cute, very quaint Italian restaurant with authentic and delicious cuisine made by the hands of an even cuter Italian chef and his wife. Nice atmosphere, excellent dining. Ideal for a date. Also, the lunch menu is uber-delicious and totally reasonably priced. Bread, salad, your choice of pasta, and a drink (including beer or wine) for only 1100 yen. You would be crazy not to check it out!
Favorite Dish: The salads are awesome...light, crispy, and full of flavor. The pizzas are even better...crisp, rich with explosive tastes, and uber-zesty. Very refined, subtle, delicious dishes...totally classy, dead-on, this restaurant wins the prize.
