Train Etiquette
There are a few things foreigners should be aware of while travelling on the trains. This applies anywhere in Japan.Firstly, eating is a definite no-no. It's considered extremely rude and uncouth. Although you won't get anyone telling you off for it (it's not illegal), you might get some disapproving looks or muttered words of disgrace in your direction. If you really must eat, do it inconspicuously!Secondly, using mobile/cell/handy phones is not allowed on trains, and in certain areas of Japan it is illegal to use your phone on the train. The main reason that seems to be floating around is that it interferes with pace-makers, and also they emit a lot of radiation if a large number of people use them at once.
