Yakushiji Temple was built to worship Yakushi Nyorai, god of medicine back in the 7th century however, as a result of fires, the temple you see today was rebuilt in the 1970s with the exception of the east pagoda, which remains from the original dating back to 730.

The temple is organized symmetrically, which is not common for Japanese temples, making Yakushiji easily distinguishable from other temples. Inside the buildings you can see various treasures of the temple, including the Buddha statue in the kondo.

Entrance is 500 yen, except when the Garan is open. Then entrance is 800 yen.

This was a particularly good temple, although a little removed from the centre of Nara itself.
