If you are in Tokyo you really MUST see Japanese Kabuki Theatre. This is truly a treat, but like most everything in Tokyo not particularly inexpensive. There is an underground side of Tokyo that caters to MEN ONLY. I was approached on numerous occassions by those who would invite me to the 'redlight' aspects of Tokyo. The adventurer got the best of me on one occassion and I was treated to a very personal experience that was surprisingly less expensive than I had thought it would be. But I caution other young adventurers, since the consequences of delving into Tokyo's underground are likely to be severe if an authority figure comes into the scene. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

In the big cities like Osaka and Tokyo, wherever there are 1000s of people passing by, you are guaranteed to come across a few FISHERS. It's a treat to watch these guys dressed in ridiculous matching fur coats and fancy haircuts trying to lure women into their bars. Hours can be spent watching these guys hit on every girl that walks by, get rejected time and time again and still keep at it. They are inspirational to a degree.
If you want to get in on the action, dress as ostentatiously as possible and maybe you'll get initiated. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Osaka: Dotomburi in Namba is the classic spot, but it's all over the place.Other Contact: If you're a girl and they offer

This clubbing district especially caters to foreigners. This is welcome relief to all us 'gai-jins' who'd usually get kicked out of Japanese-only places.
dress to impress! ...unless you wanna sit in the corner and talk to the potted plants. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubDirections: Central Tokyo

In Osaka... just be in Namba-Sinsaibashi or Umeda. Once you enter the evening here on a weekend, you can't come out till the sun rises again Be it Bar Isn't It or Sam and Dev or the endless spots. The evening reamins young till the dawn.

I hate to put any info. here because several months after I was in Kobe it was leveled by a quake. Maybe someone can let me know if these places are still there or not? This picture was taken at a cool little place called Acrophobia. I also went to a disco called 'It's a Bar Isn't It?' I had a very good time at both places. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Places where there are cultural shows. Pachinko parlors are also interesting and relatively inexpensive --they're like vertical pinball machines using small ball bearings.
The Japanese are well-dressed and generally conservative. Except for the counter-cultural types you will see in some parks on the weekend. Theme: Theater
