A main ingredient in many parties I went to was beer! Our exchange group preferred the Asahi brand. In fact, Ben liked it so much, I suggested he dress as an Asahi beer bottle for our Halloween party. Doesn't he look snazzy?

I have no specific recommendations, but a night of Karaoke (especially if you are accompanied by Japanese) is an unforgetable experience.OK, there are a lot of song selections in Japanese that I could not follow AT ALL, and there are some really bad song selections in English (to my taste), but the spirit of it all is fun. This particular night out (in Tokyo), my friends had us singing Ace of Base and Spice Girls songs... In most Karaoke places, you and your companions are given your own personal room, so dress is whatever you wear out normally.

by moremaga

Roppongi: A very crazy, exciting, and different kind of hangout spot. A tourist hangout with lots of bars and clubs. A very diverse and international crowd ranging from tourists to Japanese locals. There seems to be a lot of foreigners who work at the various clubs and bars. Anything goes, some people dress very wildly there. A wide range of styles from Japanese business men in suits to teenagers with bleached hair and platform shoes for the girls.

by Chireru

In Fukuoka I prefer the Voodoo Lounge and The Dark Room. We visited just about every bar in Japan, but these were the bars that stuck out in my mind the most. Both bars are gaijin bars, but the uniqueness was the attitued with which we were treated. I would do most anything for those people because of their kind, accommodating actions. Anything you want that doesn't break the law.

by LAOWAI

In the big cities like Osaka and Tokyo, wherever there are 1000s of people passing by, you are guaranteed to come across a few FISHERS. It's a treat to watch these guys dressed in ridiculous matching fur coats and fancy haircuts trying to lure women into their bars.Hours can be spent watching these guys hit on every girl that walks by, get rejected time and time again and still keep at it. They are inspirational to a degree. If you want to get in on the action, dress as ostentatiously as possible and maybe you'll get initiated.

by debankh

I hate to put any info. here because several months after I was in Kobe it was leveled by a quake. Maybe someone can let me know if these places are still there or not? This picture was taken at a cool little place called Acrophobia. I also went to a disco called 'It's a Bar Isn't It?' I had a very good time at both places.

by electromania

The best clubs and raves in Tokyo are free!! Most Sundays ravers head to Yayogi Park near the Shibuya entrance. It starts late in the afternoon and goes all night. There is usually a good crowd of between 100 to 500 and you can usually find whatever it is you need.Other raves are held regularly throughout the summer on beaches, mountains and in temples. These are usually word of mouth but are sometimes listed in the tokyo classified.

by Dick_Loudon

Places where there are cultural shows. Pachinko parlors are also interesting and relatively inexpensive --they're like vertical pinball machines using small ball bearings. The Japanese are well-dressed and generally conservative. Except for the counter-cultural types you will see in some parks on the weekend.

Karaoke bars...again spread...

by stoner

Karaoke bars...again spread right through out the country. You can even get your own booth/bar for your private party...accommodating from 2-20 people or upwards!!!Karaoke....what more can I say...it's always gonna be unique Dress Casual to Semi Formal..you'll quite often see suits and ties as business men quite often use it as relaxation.
