Enjoy a Foot Spa
Favorite thing: In Japanese, these are known as ashiyu. I am not sure whether to translate it as foot spa or leg spa as the Japanese usually don't make a clear distinction and call both ashi. Anyway, a foot spa is much easier to get into since you don't have to strip down and be completely in the nude in front of a bunch of people you don't know. And to make things even better you can enjoy the same place with all your friends or family.
There are foot spas throughout various areas of Niigata Prefecture and other areas of Japan, but in case you can't figure out which one to choose, I will recommend the foot spas located in the Gozu area not far from lake Hyoko. To be specific, there's a good one in Murasugi and another one featured here in the photos nearby. These are authentic spas and the beauty of the nearby landscape further enhances the experience of enjoying them.
Right next to the foot spa in Murasugi is a fresh water spring. The water quality is really high and soft and tastes something like water from Mt. Shasta.
Finally, one other key point about both the foot spa and the spring water is both are FREE!!
On the downside, one of the spas featured here (the one with the 3 women) closes at 4:30 PM.Related to:
