Wisteria: Famous Restaurant by the Northern Cultural Museum
To start, depending on which direction you enter the area, the parking can seem like hell. We ended up parking 2 blocks away next to a farmer's field (which was legal as there were no designated no parking signs at all) along the road (and not blocking any traffic in anyway whatsoever).
The surroundings are fantastic and the restaurant itself is made of some beautiful wood.
The food however was a disappointment. I have warned others before that food portions are smaller in Japan but this restaurant surprised even me. What was supposed to be the main dish was the size of an appetizer and it lasted about just that long, too.
The dessert I was served was about double the size of 2 grapes. That didn't last long either.
Thankfully the salad bar was buffet style (tabehodai).
Overall, I found it overrated. As someone in our party of 3 commented, "What we're paying for is the surroundings."
Favorite Dish: The fish was good but way TOO small. The meal cost 1,500 yen for each of us.Related to:

Rest stops along freeways
There are plenty of these all over Japan. These are frequented by bus tours, bus trips, and other drivers. It's worth going inside to take a break and you can find lots of goodies to eat. Some are better than others.
They are also good places to pick up some souvenirs if need be.
