Takeda, is a castle town from which Mt. Kuju and Mt. Aso can be seen.
The Oka Castle, positioned at the place rimmed by deep ravines with a steep cliff, was built in 1185.
The only remains reminiscent of its heyday are the ruins of its keep and western tower and high rock piles on the side of cliffs.
The best season to visit here is in the spring and can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms.
With many historical sites including Samurai residences of the olden day, Takeda is called “Little Kyoto” in Kyushu.

In Ajimu in the backblocks of Oita, there is an African Safari park. You can either drive through it, or park your car and get a seat on the jungle bus, from where you can feed the animals. Plenty of African wildlife there, and plenty of lions and tigers in particular.
Fun.
