Favorite thing: Don't be afraid to get out of Okayama City and go to other cities/areas in Okayama. Many tourists who visit, only go to Okayama City however, the best part of Okayama is not necessarily its capital. Okayama has a lot of small, more traditional cities/towns. These towns reflect the type of Japan that most visitors picture when they think of Japan. The people from the countryside are usually very friendly, and much closer to their Japanese roots than the people of Tokyo or most other major cities. I think this is probably good advice for all of Japan, as well. Don't be afraid to go to cities you've never heard of! They will often provide you with your most memorable experiences!

Bikan area

Favorite thing: If you only have 1 day for trip in Okayama, I suggest you to go to Kurashiki and enjoy the scenic spot of traditional Japan (Bikan area). Three-four hours is enough for walking around, including inside the museum.

Momotarou Souvenirs

Favorite thing: Okayama is where the story of Momotarou (Peach Boy) takes place! This is one of the most popular Japanese stories, and everyone in Japan knows Momotarou! Everywhere in Okayama, you will find Momotarou and peach-themed souvenirs. Momotarou can also be found on buildings, small statues/monuments, and just about anywhere else all over the prefecture.
Since Momotarou is "peach boy", Okayama has also become the best place to buy peaches in Japan. Even the peaches you buy in other regions are likely to come from Okayama. If you're in Okayama, you must try the peaches! They really are delicious and juicy! Thank you, Okayama, for Momotarou!

Ushimado Look-out

Favorite thing: No crowds and the people are so friendly. You have to stay at one of the Okayama Villas (see my accommodation tip).
My biggest general tip would be - HIRE A CAR!! You'll have a much easier time and be able to see and do so much more. Japan is not a scary place to drive in!
