The Kurashiki Archaeology Museum is a nice museum with displays of archaeological findings from Okayama and the Seto Inland Sea, with the oldest artifacts dating back to the paleolithic period (20,000 B.C.). Each floor of the museum displays a different period of Japanese history. Most of the displays consist of ancient pottery, tools, weapons, and clay figures. On the top floor, along with artifacts from the Muromachi Period, there is a display of artifacts from Peru's ancient Incan civilization. Although it certainly seems out-of-place, the textiles and figures are quite interesting to look at. While the Japanese artifacts are interesting enough on their own, the Peruvian exhibit is a nice bonus!
The entrance fee is 400 yen for adults. College students can get in for only 250 yen, if you show your university I.D. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

This must be one of the best museum of western arts in Japan. At first it was built by Kurashiki entrepreneur, Ohara Magosaburo. Its colections are amazing! Here you can see the works by El Greco, Rodin, Matisse, Picasso, Monet, Cézanne, Renoir, Gauguin, Degas, Munch, Toulouse-Lautrec, and other artists. Of course there are many ones by Japanese artists and it has some collections of Eastern Arts like Buddhist ones.... If you are a fun of those artists, you cannot miss this museum in Japan!
