Ashimori Plaza is a small group of buildings in the Ashimori area that is a bit like a local tourist information center. They have pamphlets about the area but in addition, they also sell Bizen pottery, postcards, and other goods and there is a little cafe where you can eat and relax. It's a good place to start or end your trip to the Ashimori area. The buildings themselves are historic, so it's worth a stop if you are here.

The Omotecho Shotengai is a large area of shopping streets near Shiroshita Tram Station around the Symphony Hall. It stretches from the attractive Kaminocho down to Sennichimae (near Saidaijicho Tram Station). It's a popular place for locals to shop. There are a variety of shops in the area, including the Hare no Kuni Souvenir shop which offers local souvenirs such as Bizen Pottery, wines, etc. and Sansan Okayama, which sells a lot of souvenir foods made in Okayama. Most of the shops within the Omotecho Shotengai are local shops, although LOFT and other larger stores are just outside the Shotengai and are considered by most to be a part of it.
Along with many clothing, shoes, and knickknack shops it also has a lot of restaurants. Some come highly recommended as they serve the local dishes, so foodies should definitely visit the shopping streets. Yamato is one of the city's top places to try the local specialty Demi-Katsudon. Contents Cafe is also here, which serves dessert paraits containing the famous local Okayama fruits, such as muscat and peonies. To try Okayama's mamakari, there is said to be no better place than Kappo Mamakari. So many of Okayama's popular restaurants are in this area, so I can't list them all but these are some of the most recommended.

Okayama Ichibangai is the name of the large shopping complex located just below Okayama Station. The Ichibangai is like an underground mall. It has many clothing store options that are very fashionable, especially for females. Of course, there are also souvenir shops and specialty shops that are fun to browse. It also has a lot of tasty and affordable restaurants.
