Handayama Botanical Garden is one of the many options in Okayama for those who like flowers and gardens. It was designed to have something blooming in all seasons of the year, and the layout is well-planned and attractive. It is one of the city's famous places to see cherry blossoms, although my visit was not during cherry blossom season. I visited in May, so the azaleas were blooming along with other flowers scattered about.

The first view of the Botanical Gardens is of the upward terraces. It creates the illusion that the place is small, but once you get up past the terraces, you'll find it extends much further. The grounds are actually quite large! It can take at least an hour if not 2 in order to roam the entire grounds and see everything. There is even a kofun (burial mound) within the grounds of the botanical garden.

Entrance is 300 yen.
