Getting to Okayama!

It is very simple to travel to Okayama, because it is one of the stops on the Shinkansen! From Tokyo, it takes about six hours to get to Okayama. From Hiroshima and Kobe, it only takes about 30 minutes! The Shinkansen also stops in Kurashiki at Shin-Kurashiki Station, which is also in Okayama Prefecture, so there are two stations you can use to access the prefecture from far away. Okayama Prefecture is a beautiful place with a lot of nature and culture, so it's well worth stopping here!

ferry to Shodoshima

It is much better if you use car.
I go there by bus. There is special price from Okayama station to Tonosho Port (Shodoshima), included bus and ferry charge, is 1100 yen for one way/adult. The ticket name is Kamome-bus. Ticket is sold in the bus ticket counter near Okayama station (Do-re-mi bld 1st fl). Ticket is valid for 1 week from the day bought.

A path to a secluded beach

Okayama has many sites and places of interets. Having a car is a major asset. The rail system in Japan is excellent, but if you want to explore more a car will be the way to go.

I have mainly recommended Okayama for the Okayama Villas and having a car to get to them is a huge advantage. You need to go and register first at Okayama and then head to your villa. There are buses and trains and they can help you with these, but a car is so much easier.

Also, we stayed at Ushimado in summer and a car meant we could find off the beaten track spots to swim and sunbake.

I have included some maps of how to get to Okayama and also the locations of the Villas in a Travelogue. Please check it out!

In front of bus stop, there is bicycle rental shop. You can get the guide book and ushimado tourist map here. The bicycle rent price is about 400 yen for 1 or 2 h (I'm not so sure).
