Chiina Soba - Some will say that it is not the best soba in southern Okinawa, but when combined with the Okinawan atmosphere, it is is a fantastic place to eat! You can sit inside a traditional Okinawan-style home or sit in the tranquil garden and enjoy your soba...Located in Itoman off of Route 54 near a school. A little hard to find, so it is best to go by taxi or with someone who knows the place.
Banjutei - This place is where the locals and taxi drivers go. It has also become popular with tourists. Highly recommended! Banjutei makes their own noodles and the soki (spare ribs) are delicious. Located in Yomitan, near Kina Elementary School along Highway 58.
Kishimoto - This soba shop has been around for decades and has a real "local" feel with nothing but tables, chairs, bowls of soba, and people slurping. You go in, sit, eat, and when you are done, you leave. People line up outside to get a taste of this famous soba. The pork is tender and out of this world! Located in Motobu near the Toguchi Intersection.
Favorite Dish: Soba! What else?!
Soba is a traditional dish that was brought to Okinawa via China. It is basically noodles in a very delicious broth that uses both katsuo-bushi (dried bonito fish) and pork as its soup base. The noodles are usually seved with either thick slices of sanmai-niku (pork-bacon) or soki (spare ribs). It is one of Okinawa's most famous dishes and can be found almost anywhere. It is filling and cheap...only about 500 to 600 yen! (US$5)
In the Makishi Market, you can buy some fresh fish and meats to eat in there immediately. Buy some fish and meats, pay additional 500yen for cook, and you can eat them in the diner upstair.

I happened to find a great microbrewery with awesome food along street, called Helios. They had a stout, porter, hefe-weizen, pale ale, and an ale made from the goya squash. It was a great find. I wound eating and drinking there 2 days in a row. The staff was very friendly and proud of their food and brew.
Hours: 11:30 til 11p.m. and 12 p.m on weekends
Favorite Dish: Seafood carpaccio that was absolutely killer! Clams, octopus, tuna, scallops, sword fish, served on a bed of romaine lettuce, shredded iceburg lettuce, and tomatos with a green peppercorn sauce.
Lafute, a traditional Okinawan food. Its slowly simmered pork in a sweet caramel sauce served with a side of horseradish and topped with sliced goya squash.
Homemade sausages that were out of this world with a hefe-weizen. The sausages were goya squash (If you havent guessed, the Okinawans love their goya), olive, chorizo, and Okinawan red pepper (spicy),
If in Okinawa City, you must stop by Mt Blanc. the Pepper Steak or seafood subs are one of a kind and the Shrimp fried rice is amazing. Other menu items are all worth trying, and I ate there almost daily for many years. Great food and wonderful service!
Favorite Dish: Pepper steak subs/shrimp fried rice. As stated above, the menu is above reproch, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. Low cost, great food!
The decoration of thousand small lights on the ceeling makes this izagaya(Japanese drink house) fantastic. Live band every night - enjoy Jazz when drinking aomori(local alcohol)... just good!
The location is pretty cool too - right in the central of Kokusaidori(international street).
Favorite Dish: Local food and drinks.
