Surfing is a fast-growing activity in Okinawa. The waves here are very hollow and powerful. In the summer, approaching typhoons cause large swells to form, which turn into nice rideable waves. In the winter, strong northern winds bring in good waves and keep surfers busy. Be careful of the reef and make sure you observe and ask for tips from local surfers before entering the water.
Another good place to scuba dive or snorkel is Cape Hedo. This is where Pacific Ocean and South China Sea meets which sometime can cause dangerous diving condition. If you would like a nice little hike and at the same time see a raging falls, I recommend going to Hiji Falls. They have a well established trails to reach the falls the only downside is too many steep steps hehe. Just remember to wear comfortable sandals or shoes and also bring plenty of water during warmer days.They do have signs prohibiting swimming and diving in the bottom of the falls Comfy footwear and water for hydration.
If your one of those people who likes to get their feet wet. Cape Maeda is the place where you can find one the best spot to scuba dive and snorkel. They also have a terrace where you can sit back and watch the divers explore the reef. Make sure to check out this spot. bring snorkel and mask or rent a scuba gear with the many shops on the island.
