    getting around

    by terps94 Written Apr 10, 2004

The road system here in okinawa is not that complex. It's very easy to drive around as long as you keep in mind the major roads such as Route 58, 330 and 329 which run from north to south.
They also have an expressway that runs almost the legnth of the island but be careful the speed limit hee is 80 kph and they have lot of speed traps.

Be aware that in the island they enforce the seatbelt law very strictly. Also it rains a lot in the island so during rainy weather , the road becomes very slippery because of the coral component in the asphalt so watch your speeds.

The local gov't frown upon drinking and driving so be careful. I head stories that people who got pulled for DUI are subject to fine of $300 bith driver and passenger are expected to pay this fine

I went to Okinawa by Birthday Wari (Birthday discount) by ANA.
In Japan, you can buy a domestic ticket (JAL & ANA) for a low price when your birthday.
Almost all direction only cost 10000 yen for single trip. You can take max. 3 friends travelling with you and your friend will get the low price ticket too!!

It is not only in your birthday but 7 days before and after your birthday.
Lucky me that my birthday always close to japanese sport day which always monday so that i can travel 3 days (sat, sun & mon)inside japan.

The simply way is rent a car.
If you can't drive, take the taxi.
Some place can be reach by monorail (quite new in Okinawa)

Once when i took a taxi, i thought the driver is american or something like that (really dun look like a japanese...) but he is a japanese ...
    half maybe?

Naha has a brand new monorail cruising over head. What a great way to get around the city. It costs 200 yen ($1.83) to use.
