I realized after answering a recent driving question, that I must add a driving in inclement weather on Okinawa tip. Driving in the rain on Okinawa can be quite treacherous to the uninitiated. Although as with anywhere else you should slow down in the rain, on Okinawa there is an added danger. Due to the coral composition of the asphalt used here and the coral dust that can build up on the roads between rain showers, the streets here can become amazingly slippery. It is almost akin to driving on ice, if it is just a sudden shower that doesn't really soak the streets down and wash away the dust. Therefore, if you decide to visit Okinawa and have a rental car, be particularly careful in the rain.

Stay well clear of Gate 2 street and surrounding streets. Most of the bars and nightclubs located on this street are all whore bars and will charge you 5-10 dollars for your drink then will get you to buy drinks for the old women who work their which will cost about 20 dollars.
GO TO NAHA!!!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!

Okinawa is surrounded by water, which makes it a fun place to visit if you like marine sports. However, typhoons and strong winds can make the water treacherous. When the conditions become hazardous, do not enter the water. Most of this is common sense. If you see that the water is rough, or if a warning has been posted, then you should not attempt to swim, snorkel, or SCUBA dive. There is always another day...

before you snorkel or dive the waters of Okinwa make sure you are aware of the sea condition. As beautiful as the water is, it can be dangerous too if you dont pay attention. There are times that the weather is beautiful but the water is not, some dive or snorkel sites can be treacherous if you are not careful. So before you soak your feet in the water find out the condition first and use your own judgement base on your ability.

When going to the beaches, look out for the coral - it's everywhere. If you're going to scuba, snorkel, or go for a real swim, consult your local travel guide for the beaches suited to your abilities. All of the beaches are rated, from safest to most dangerous. I'm not kidding, the surf and rip tides are unreal.

Okinawa has a lot of poisonous sea and land creatures. Perhaps the most deadly is the Habu snake. Unless you spend a lot of time in the jungle you are most likely to see the Habu at the bottom of an expensive bottle of saki.
