Getting around Kansai Area (Osaka, Kyoto, etc)

Get the Japan west rail pass, under JR, if you're intending to see the Kansai areas over some days.

http://www.japanrail.com/JR_regionalrailpass.html

This ticket isnt available at all stations. For the list, go the link above.

Notable cities that are worth seeing on your trip to this region(not in order):
Osaka (Namba, Umeda, Universal studios)
Kyoto
Nara
Kobe
Horyuji
Himeji
(all under the rail pass areas, just that you probably will have to squeeze time)

The pass gets cheaper per day when you get the 3-consecutive-day pass as compared to the 1 or 2 day pass..

Be sure to have your e ticket printout cos they will bug you for it at the ticket office when you want to buy this tourist pass. You can buy this at the the airport JR train ticket office.

This pass enables you to take the faster "Haruka" trains into town, but only in the cars with unreserved seats.

Also AT THE TICKET GATES, you dont have to insert the pass into any machine.. just take the lane for "White backed tickets"!!!..

TIP: If you think you'll be staying long in this side of Japan and intending to buy this ticket two or more times seperately, consider printing out multiple copies of your itinerary. This is because the staff at the station will stress that the ticket is meant to be bought ONLY ONCE per stay in japan, and thus when you buy it they will stamp a [JWRP] on your itinerary print out, so they'll know it.

Getting to Osaka city areas from Rinku Town

There are 2 train companies serving from Rinku town train station. JR and Nankai

I prefer getting to Osaka city areas (Namba and Umeda) from Rinku Town via the Nankai Line.

This is because it can cost about the same as JR's prices, but you can get there considerably faster.

On the NANKAI train network:
Just get on any of the trains (except Rapit). If you hopped on the LOCAL train (means it stops at every station), hop on it anyway, then on the next stop, Izumisano, you can transfer to a more "express" option there for example, the SUB-EXPRESS or LIMITED EXPRESS SOUTHERN heading for Namba. On the LIMITED EXPRESS go to the Unreserved cabins so you dont have to pay anything extra. Japan's trains sounds complicated but after a day or 2 you'll be used to it! :)

Also NANKAI's Namba train station is much nearer to where the all the action is, as compared to JR's Namba station.

AT RINKU TOWN STATION TAKE NOTE!:
The NANKAI and JR stations shares the same platform but on different sides, so take note to not take the wrong train! :)

Also if you need to get to north part of Osaka's bustling side, Umeda, you can still take the subway, connecting from Namba's Nankai station, which is much more consideraby faster than JR's route. JR's route takes a long winded outer circular way to the north.
