The Hoshida Park Hiking Trail is the most popular trail in Katano. The start of the trail follows the Amanogawa River and then it leads up to Takeruga Peak, a scenic peak of exposed rocks. There is a rock climbing wall here as well, which can be fun for those who are really feeling the outdoors. Although it doesn't ruin the view of the peak, the man-made climbing wall does seem to detract a little from the beauty of the natural scenery here. There is also a rest area here for those who want a snack, drink, or just want to sit.
From there, the hike goes up the mountain/hill through the forest. The nature along the trail is pretty and once you reach the peak, you are treated to the trail's most famous site, the long bridge that spans the valley! The view of the bridge itself is worth seeing, but when you cross the bridge, the surrounding mountains and valley below are even more scenic! If crossing the bridge doesn't scare you too much, try to take in the view.
After you cross, the trail continues on upward a little longer and then descends. Going up, there is a good view of the bridge from far away and you can see faraway cities in the distance, such as Hirakata and even Kyoto. If you continue the trail, it will take you to Hoshida Station. If you prefer to go back to Keihan Kisaichi Station, it's better to backtrack from here.
