Shinsaibashi: Not to be missed

  • Directions: In Osaka, the shopping mall not to be missed should be Shinsaibashi . It is crowded and full of fashions. The side roads are even more crowded as we have to fight space with cars and lots of bicycles. But restaurants are along these narrow roads.

    Best Sports Store in the
    World... that I've been!!
    by huggy93
Best sports shop that I have ever been to in the World. In my previous pages I have spoken of my love of sneakers / trainers. Well this place had in all on (I think) ten floors. If it wasn't in this store then it probably wasn't worth buying!

Sneakers / trainers, shorts, sports socks, weights, basketballs, baseballs, caps, running machines, vest tops, I could go on and on about what you can buy here but I won't. You gotta be there to see exactly what I mean.

Whatever your budget is, you're gonna find something in this store.

Shopping in Osaka just got a
    whole lot nicer!
    by mikegr
Opened in October of 2003, this is without doubt the most pleasant place to shop in Osaka.

Namba Parks is a shopping centre which is airy, spacious and architecturally interesting with a deep canyon running through it and walkways connecting the two sides.

Best of all, it is stepped, and the steps have been planted out with pretty garden, giving Oska city centre some much needed greenery. There are numerous restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy your meal surrounded by garden.

It is as pleasant to wander around Namba parks as it is to shop here.

Namba Parks has a large range of shops for clothes, speciality foods, homewares, plants, toiletries.

Living away from England I was particularly pleased to see a Next store (a very popular clothes store back home) opening in the shopping centre.

  • Directions: Behind Nankai Namba Station and clearly signposted from there. I suggest combining a trip to Namba Parks with a visit to Sumiyoshi Taisha grand shrine, which is on the Nankai Line for a very varied day out.

    much? Escape by rocket!
    by mikegr
If you happen to be wandering around the shops in the Nankai Namba area of Osaka near the Takashimaya department store, watch out for this rocket, for which there is no apparent reason.

It's very big, incredibly silly, ridiculously out-of-place. And typically Osaka.

Tsuruhashi is the centre of Japan`s Korean community. The area around Tsuruhashi station is a complex maze of of covered shopping streets and arcades. It`s a great place to buy fresh produce and also Korean craft.

There are many traditional Korean and Japanese restaurants too.
It`s great to wander from stall to stall, taking in the sights and aromas.

    Yodobashi Camera, Osaka.
    by worldkiwi
Yodobashi Camera is a massive multi-storey department store complex in Umeda, just west of the Umeda New Hankyu Station and north of Osaka Central JR Station. The nearest subway station is Umeda.
The annoying Yadobashi theme song plays non-stop. Have pity for the shop assistants.

Camera gear, film, computers, cell phones, seem to be the main attraction, but there are fashion stores, music stores (instruments), and even a stationery level!

The Daimairu department store is very classy store. The interieur is looking rich.
On the 8th floor there is a museum / gallery.
Sonia (Heywinks) gave us two tickets for an exhibition there. It was art from the Museum John Paul II. The Caroll-Porczynski Foundation.
Some first class paintings there from Rubens and van Dyck amongst others. But the exhibition ended at april 15. So check if there is any other exhibition when you are there.

The entire street is full of shops where you can buy stuff to start a restaurant. From pots and pans , saucers and cups to tables, chairs, menus, ovens or advertising signs.
It is a nice street to look around and sometimes you can find the perfect souvenir. Some lovely colored shopsticks, a nice bowl or a cloth to hang in your kitchen.
