We took the bullet train from Kyoto station to JR Osaka Station. It is very easy and fast to go to Osaka from Kyoto. The train journey is about 1 hr 30 mins.

From Kyoto the best way is to take a normal JR train, it takes about 1 hour and costs around 1000 yen return.
Public transport, as usual in Japan, are excellent to stroll around.
