A General Tip

by SuperJerry

If you're like the majority of people here, you will not have access to cars. You probably would think twice about driving the wild streets of Osaka too. While Japan boasts one of the best public transportation systems in the world, there is a caveat: most subways and trains stop running around midnight. Many a traveller have been stranded (drunk) at their local booze hole only to realize they'll have to find a hotel room or loiter the streets till dawn because the train stopped.Be sure to take a peak at the train schedule posted in each station to see when the last train runs. Alternatively, for a longer night out, look at when the trains [bold]start[/bold]You can take a taxi but they're rather expensive. A 30 minute ride can cost upwards of CDN$50.

Nankai Densya (Nankai Electric Railway) is a private railway in Japan. The Nankai network branches out in a generally southern direction from Namba Station. The Nankai Main Line connects Osaka to Wakayama, with an important spur branching to Kansai International Airport. The Koya Line connects Osaka to Mt. Nori-kae (Changing trains)

by CO-Chad

Both JR and Nankai trains serve southern Osaka-fu. Sometimes it is necessary to change from one line to the other to reach your destination. Shin-Imamiya is a very convenient place to do this, since both lines are in the same station building. It's also possible to change at Rinku Town or at Kansai International Airport on the airport route.JR's web page http://www.jr-odekake.net/ is a convenient place to check schedules and routes. Even better, Jorudan includes not only JR but also Nankai, subway, Kintetsu, Hankyu... all the major train lines. Their English page seems to be malfunctioning, though.

Rinku Town Station

by CO-Chad

Two major train lines serve Senshuu, the area south of Osaka. JR and Nankai both run between Osaka and Wakayama, and each goes to Kansai International Airport. However, beware that in Rinku Town station - and ONLY in Rinku Town - the two share the same platform. It is possible, if you're not paying attention, to buy a JR ticket but board a Nankai train (or vice-versa). This will leave you stranded at some Nankai station with no boarding ticket, trying to explain to the eki-in (station workers) how you got there. There are also very similar sounding station names (JR's Sakai-shi and Nankai's Sakai; JR's Higashi Kishiwada and Nankai's Kishiwada), so it pays to look twice. The good news is that, although they share a platform they don't share tracks. Therefore, JR trains will always be on the "inside" between the two platforms, and Nankai on the "outside."

Kansai/Osaka Transit

by bengilmour

I was flying ANA from Beijing to Osaka with connection to Sydney and our flight out of Beijing was delayed for 3 hours. I was concerned that I would miss the connection and have to wait around for another flight. When I arrived at Osaka I was informed that our plane was waiting for us, almost an hr late, the few on this connection where able to make it, tho we ran through with the help of the friendly local airport workers. As soon as we boarded the plain was in the motions of departing. Go ANA airlines, you go beyond the norm.
