A BIG BAG FULL OF MONEY- Take lots of Money. And Take everything you might need, as buying clothes and jusdt about everything else is- EXPENSIVE. Japanese always overdress. If you don't want to look like a slob, take your Gucchi bag and diamond rings. It took the Japanese 50 years to legalize birth control pills and 50 seconds to legalize Viagara, so I think you can get just about everything there. Again- take what you need - and develop your film back home. TAKAI (expensive) is a very important word to learn. Take it all because they have nothing. There are lots of ridiculously great games to play and super tastey food- so take lots of money so you can have some fun.

Don't forget to buy a temporary tourist insurance from the airport before departure. Medical treatment is damly expensive here. 5 minutes doctor's treatment can simply cost you handrads dollars unless you have the medical insurance. .

Ensure your luggage has wheels on it and is easy to maneuver with. High fashion is key in Tokyo; however, if you are going to be doing a lot of walking ensure your shoes are comfortable. Humidity and heat are an issue in the summer months, so synthetic materials aren't very fun. Also be VERY sure to take an umbrella - they don't call it the 'rainy season' for no reason! In the urban areas, mosquitos aren't too bad, but you would want repellant if you're heading to more rural areas. Also, unless you can read kanji, you will want to take your own supply of tylenol, antacid, Imodium, etc. They are very hard to find when you can't read kanji.Another KEY thing to pack is handkerchiefs for drying your hands (public toilets don't supply paper towel). On that note, also be sure to pack packets of kleenex - public toilets also don't supply toilet paper frequently! Anything you want to...

I brought a moutaineering style backpack that i usually use while travelling. It's not needed in japan but it is very easy to travel with. I was there in the winter so I had long pants, tennis shoes, warm shirts and a light jacket. They have everything you could possibly need. Canon Eos 10s (my persoanl camera). Film is everywhere..don't bring more than what is already in your camera unless you thik you can get it cheaper in your home country.

I find it pityful to offer 'Gay and lesbian travel' in 1. It means if you translate it '*** my ass and push in big bananas'. When I am travelling, I don't say to people what I do concerning sex...No problem about what you bring. Concerning inside your luggage, I would say to bring clothes with no flashy colours. everything there, but cheaper in France ! Also buy your camera there if you don't mind or can read japanese a little

If going to climb the Fuji in summer, don't be fooled by the hot weather! Even if in Tokyo you were roasting at 35 C, it will be near freezing point at the summit, believe me. So bring a couple of short-sleeved shirts (to change one when it gets soaked with sweat), a long sleeved one and a light jacket or a sweater. Also, a woolen cap, gloves and 2 or 3 pairs of socks.

Have a small towel with you, you'll need it quite often (public baths). There are plenty of shops that offer films (as long as it is Fuji) and hardware (as long as it is made in Japan). If you need something different prepare to search for it... A phrase book - very important, as not everyone speeks english.ATM - card (most shops only accept japanese credit cards) - though there aren't many ATMs that will work with it either...

If you're staying at multiple locations, take something like a mid sized backpack. A suitcase doesn't have to be a problem since they have a very good suitcase delivery service, so you can take out the thing you need for a couple of days and put those in a smaller (bag (backpack) and send your suitcase to the next hotel. We did it twice and it worked perfect. Keep mind of which season you're going to visit Japan. An umbrella will come in handy, but you can buy those everywhere in Japan. In winter warm clothes are needed!!! June is the rain season. And in hte summer take some t-shirts and shorts. Keep in mind if you're going to places like Takayama or Koyasan, they lay far above sea level, the higher the colder!!! You don't really need any medical supplies. Japan has a very high standard of healthcare. Make sure that your chargeable equipment can be charged at 100V. Make sure you have...
