Karatsu festival is the festival in city of Karatsu began in early 17th century and it is now held annually from the 2nd to the 4th of November.

This festival has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk-Cultural Property by the Japanese Government.

The 14 “Hikoyama” ( floats) pulled on four-wheeled carts assume a variety of forms.
These include lions, dragons, a red snapper, and a killer whale.
With the sound of flutes and the beat of the drums, those five-ton plus “Hikiyama” storming through the street of Karatsu are a spectacle not to be missed.
