Tobu Zoo
Around 35-40 minutes from central Tokyo by train is the Tobu Zoo. As it's not in a built up area at all, there's plenty of space, and there are plenty of grassed areas to have a picnic etc.There's also an amusement park within the grounds if that's your thing, although none of the rides looked especially interesting.The grounds cost 1500 yen for adults to get into, which is a fair bit more expensive than Ueno zoo in Tokyo, although there is a lot more space.
