Taga Shrine (Taga Taisha) is a historic shrine once considered to be the top shrine in Shiga Prefecture. It is mentioned in the ancient book the Kojiki as the Grand Shrine of Izanagi, one of the creator gods in Shintoism. The shrine reminded me of a small version of Izumo Shrine, although it's really not the same architectural style. In the entrance is a stone bridge and a cherry tree. It's a beautiful shrine and a great stop for those interested in shrines or who wish to see a more rural Japan. It also makes a nice addition to a trip to Hikone. That's how I visited. Entrance is free.
