Matsue Station is located along the San-in Line, so it is well connected from Yamaguchi to Tottori! You can also reach it easily from Okayama, Kurashiki, and Miyoshi.
For an economical way of getting here (particularly if you're travelling from further away), consider taking a highway bus! From eastern cities, like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, buses stop at Matsue Station prior to arriving at Izumo. If you plan to visit Matsue and Izumo, you may just want to go to Izumo and take the train to Matsue. From Osaka, it will cost about 5500 yen (one way).
