Among the steep mountains of Atami are lovely terrace gardens. Once inside the grounds, if it's difficult for you to physically take the uphill or downhill walk, you may optionally ride for free the tour van or golf cart to enjoy the gardens.
There are rose blooms are peaking in mid-May to mid-June, and there are many herb gardens, English style as well as Japanese style gardens, and an attached resort hotel (probably the nicest one in this city) as described in the WWW. You may plan an outdoor flower wedding here as well.

Once again, I didn't enter (and it looked a bit overpriced at 900 yen for an adult), but also at the top of the ropeway is Atami Castle.
It's not really one of Japan's more noted castles, but may interest some.

I recommend getting the ropeway up the hill to the castle. I didn't actually enter the doll museum, castle or adult museum up there, as time didn't allow, but you do get a very good view of the sea and the city. Recommended.
500 yen return.

Don't miss the famous Onsen (japanese baths) when you visit Atami; aside from the Atami city spas, there are also two other main spa areas:
Izu Yugawara Spa, 5km in the north of Atami, where the Chitose River and the Fujiki River join together, a row of modern hotels and traditional hotels along the river. The right side of the river is Atami city (Shizuoka Prefecture) and the other side is Yugawara town (Kanagawa Prefecture), and the both areas are called "Izu Yugawara Spa" in total. Although the spa town is crowded with visitors, there are many quiet points surrounded by the nature of the Hakone Mountains, and you will understand why this town has been loved by many literary authors.
The Ajiro Spa is a row of thermal hotels around Ajiro Port extending for 4km

Address: Atami City and region
At the beach front, you can walk directly on the sand or swim in Atami Sun Beach, or walk along the "Shinsui Park Moon Terrace", which is especially popular during nighttime.

You may find an old fashioned japanese spa resort where is located only about one and half hour from Tokyo. I think this area is known as typcal showa resort, so well-known by senior people.
