The nihondaira zoo is located on the base of Mt UDO between shizuoka and shimizu city..Its a public zoo...so elememtary kids and smaller are not charged....
There are about 195 species of 700 animals, pretty good size zoo to spend 2 or 3 hours....
Besides the usual animals like lions, tigers, and polar bears, the most loved one is the lesser pandas...
There is a peting section..where the kids can ride a pony, learn to handle little chicks and hamters...
The zoo also has a night animal collection house for small monkeys ..and other noctunal animals...
COST: 500 yen for adult, kids up to elementary school is free...
CLOSE: MONDAY (or the next day when Mon is holiday), also Dec 29 - Jan 1
OPEN FROM 9am-430pm
There is a fee for parking .....is 400 yen..this you pay from the little vending machine by the parking lot...
