Utsunoya Pass walk, either of Tokaido or Tsutano Hosomichi, is relatively easy and safe to walk. But one thing you need to be careful is high-voltatge line such as the photo shows. It is at the middle part of Okabe side of Tsutano Hosomichi. It is not limited to Tsutano Hosomichi hike, whenever you walk around citrus orchards or terrace fields in Japan there may be such electric devices to deter wild animals. Best season for Tsutano Hosomichi walk is fine days in winter or spring, or autumn. But during summer the trail might be covered with grass and may be difficult to trace. Also after the typhoon or heavy rains some of the routes can be impassable because of fallen trees or minor landslide.

Taisho Tunnel is still used as a Prefectural Road and local people still drive along the road and often they are speeding. When you take a photo of Taisho tunnel be careful of the cars.

Never rent a car in Japan, because the motorway fees are so high and you really spent a big amount of money for a very short distance.
