Venus Fort, Odaiba

by pharsadi

Venus Fort is a Venice-themed shopping mall contains many exclusive fashion boutiques targeted towards women. A major feature of the complex is the curved ceiling with the sky painted with the lighting creating a sunset every thirty minutes. There are marble fountains along with all the shop fronts looking like the buildings of Venice.Besides shops and boutiques, this mall also has a small old toyota museum. Those of you who are fans of 'Initial D' anime will definitely recognize the cars displayed there. There are also art galleries in the mall. Going to this mall is an experience by itself. You will see the teens and young adult hang out there. And they are very very fashionable. I did not see anybody who did not dress up in this mall.

Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion), Kyoto

by pharsadi

This temple was build in 1482. It has two stories and is coated with lacquer. Out of the three temples we visited in Kyoto, I voted this one to be my favorite. Once you come into the gate, you'll be greeted with a very beautiful zen garden. You will feel like you are in a another world. While walking (a bit of very light hiking I must say), you will see a very beautiful view of Kyoto and the zen garden. Now you've come to the temple. The temple itself is not too big, but it is surrounded by a pond with very nicely decorated trees and plants.

Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto

by pharsadi

This temple stands over thhe cliff and is totally supported by huge huge wooden pillars. From this temple you can enjoy the whole view of Kyoto. One of the fun part visiting this temple is actually walking to the temple through a small street full of shops. This temple was the biggest temple out of the three we visited. The weather was perfect and there were lots of tourists visited the temple. We did not go through all of it because of time restrictions. We went there with a tour. I'd suggest if you wanted to visit temples in Kyoto, just go by yourself. It should be pretty easy going there. If you go with a tour, your time is limited.

Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), Kyoto

by pharsadi

The original building was completed in 1397. It is a 3-story building and is coated with golden foil. So many people visited the place when we came there. It does have a very nice area covered with red maple trees. In the main area, you can have a cup of green tea and some small traditional snacks for about 500 yen per person. It can be a very relaxing and peaceful experience. There are also several gift shops selling snacks at the end of the walkway. They have free samples of the snacks too.

Luggage Hotel

by pharsadi

Some of you might wonder why luggages need hotels. Here's the story. I visited Japan while I was on the way to another country. I stayed in Japan for a week and I brought 3 luggages with me. The luggages couldnt go straight to the final destination, and I didnt want to carry them around while I travelled in Japan. What to do? Hence the luggage hotel. At the Narita airport, there's a place for you to drop your luggage and pick them up again when u want to leave Japan. The price is around 500 yen per luggage per night. It's not that cheap, but it's very convenient. The trick is this, when you arrive at the airport, do not drop your luggages at the arrival terminal, but take them to the departure terminal (usually at the upper floor). This way it will be easy for you to get them when you depart.

Disneyland Tokyo

by lowss

The Disneyland in Japan is big, advance and adventurous. The queue for rides is long especially in the peak hours like school holidays or public holidays. Try to use the fast pass to avoid long queue.

Karaoke

by dln6874

I know most people are weary of karaoke. But most people also love it once they try it. And Japan is the best place to try it. Karaoke boxes are everywhere in Japan. You can get a private room for you and your friends so that you don't have to worry about making a fool of yourself in front of strangers. They have awesome music selections, with plenty in English, and often other Asian languages. You can order food and drinks. Stuck somewhere after train hours? Go find a karaoke box until the trains start running again. Seriously, it is so much fun.

Visiting the most revered Zen monastery

by Mikio

One day visit to Japan's most revered Zen Monastery in Fukui Prefecture. Learn about the Zen monastic life and the monastery's history.I went to Eiheiji Monastery in Fukui in October 2006. From Fukui City, got on a local train, going through rice fields and buckwheet fields. The Monastery is located in the remote area. I was told that over 800,000 people visit this place annually. But, when I got there on Monday morning, the crowds were sparse. The whole area felt like a serious monastic training center rather than a tourist destination. Very spiritual. Very traditional. The admission fee was mere 600Yen or $5.00. The tour of the building is well organized and highly educational. I stopped and read everything that was posted. Young novice monks were working hard. Very good way to spend the day in a country side of Japan. I learned a lot about Zen Buddhism and its history in Japan. The...
