KIYOMIZU TEMPLE - THE VERANDA

by I-Believe-I-Can-Fly

Its wooden veranda which juts out over a wooded canyon is functioned as "viewing veranda" where most of the visitors enjoyed the panoramic view of Kyoto and the woods around the temple. The view from here is dramatically beautiful.Facing this wooden veranda there is an altar dedicated to Kannon (goddess of mercy) who can bring about easy childbirth. I saw many women tossed in an offering, usually something like a 100 yen coin donation then said little prayers.

KIYOMIZU TEMPLE - WOODEN TEMPLE

KIYOMIZU TEMPLE - PURE WATER

by I-Believe-I-Can-Fly

Kiyomizu-Dera means Pure Water Temple. The temple gets its name from the underground spring below. Most of visitors (including myself!) made a long line waiting for the turn to sip the pure water by holding out a long handled cup to dip from the flowing water. The spring is divided into three small trickles flowing through a notch cut into each of three beams protruding out near the roof of the alcove. According to our guide, each of the streams has a special property. The right waterfall enhances your intelligence, the middle makes you handsome or beautiful and the left waterfall gives you a long life. The choice is yours!

KIYOMIZU TEMPLE - "LOVE STONES"

by I-Believe-I-Can-Fly

In the shrine's main hall, there are two big holy stones called "makura ishi" (love stones). The Japanese believe that a person who succeeds in walking straight ahead from one end to the other between the two stone which is about 6 meter long, with closed eyes while reciting the loved one's name will see his/her relationship in love becoming into marriage....

Tokyo

by yen_2

Ginza is the most famous shopping area in Tokyo. Ueno-Koen, a park north of the centre, has some of Japan's best museums and galleries.Asakusa, north-east of the centre, is one of the few places where you can experience something of the real-life flavour of old ***amachi.Senso-ji Temple, probably the liveliest place of Buddhist worship in all Japan.Shinjuku, west of the centre, is present-day Tokyo's rowdiest entertainment quarter.Mt. Fuji, Japan's highest mountain (3776m/12,385ft) is the only natural feature most visitors to this beautiful place are sure they want to check out and you want to visit too.

Getting Really Pissed In Japan

by MariaInJapan

Everybody who comes to Japan ends up getting really, really pissed. Upon arrival we snigger at the small 'o-chokos' that the sake comes in but the final snigger is always on the master of the drinking establishment.Sake effects us all in different ways. Unfortunately, for my victims, that is, I become a raging nymphomaniac. No man within a 20km radius is safe from my sake breath and groping, sweaty hands. I have had so many embarrassing experiences that I can blame sake on.Oh dear! If you'd like to read more, you will have to send me the sum of $16.99.

A boat ride in Matsushima bay....1

by PolishChick

For most people the view from the bay is not enough and they choose to go on a boat ride. There is a variety of choices, so you will find something for yourself for sure!!! There are cruise boats, on which you can cruise for an hour or so and even have a dinner or a drink, or typical tourist boats, that take you around the bay and the most beauitiful islands just so you can take some pictures. I heard you can even rent your own boat and avoid the crowds and the rush by boating by yourself or with family and friends.

Traditions: Odori

by manuelEB

Age is to a geisha what ageis to the good rum. Not many geishas around lately but the art of geishas is part of the tradition and many troupes of traditonal dancing can be appreciated along the Archipelago. Dance in a geisha customs in despite of the age, and still showing all the sensuality that a Geisha is supposed to convey it's indeed an art. Ah!!! Where did the young geishas go? Rochelle where are you? (-; But wai... This is not a Geisha no t even she is representing a geisha in stage... Wait! Wait!! this is traditional make up for theather artist and dancers...How to explain a weterner that she is not a geisha? Impossible!!! The image is too strong: Japanese woman in kimono= geisha. So there!!! (-;
