by Ken_Matsuoka Nice interior, spaceousness, and familiar local atmosphere with the young the majority, but many families, including children. I like the view of the first floor as seen from the second floor. The air is filled with the joy of dining and drinking (the drink list includes cocktails), and literally free from smoke from berbecue because of the perfect ventilation facilities.
Korean foods, among them, beef, john (similar to okonomi-yaki, or pancake, but more tasty), steamed rice cooked in heated stone bowl, and, most important, Suntory beer fresh from the tap. Giant fried Shrimp by Robachu1 Although the exterior of the restaurant give the impression that it is small, upon entering guests are greeted by a surprisingly large dining area with extremely high ceilings and spacious seating areas. The interior reminds me of an old ski lodge with its large exposed wooden beams and exposed brick. Japanese pottery from Mashiko is also on display to remind you that you are still in Japan. The service is quite excellent and is provided by a friendly and attentive staff. Open six days a week from11:30 - 2:00pm and 5:30 - 9:00pm Closed on Thursday.
This restaurant specializes in fried foods (not tempura) such as tonkatsu but its specialty is fried shrimp. (see photo). The shrimp are huge, almost a foot long, and fried to perfection, crispy without any oily taste. Along with the shrimp comes a cabbage salad, miso shiru, rice, tartar sauce (although you can use the tonkatsu sauce should you prefer it) and sukemono (pickled vegetables). ฐเ?[? by Robachu1 A typical Japanese Ramen Shop. Lunch and Dinner are usually crowded. The sounds of the food preparation and customers along with the wonderful smells from the kitchen make this and virtually all ramen shops in Japan a true pleasure. *Open 11am ~ 10:30 daily *Closed Thurs. *Cash only, No credit cards accepted
The house specialty is the Edoko Ramen. The "kick" comes from the Korean "kimchi" spice added to the ramen. It is great with a cold beer. T by Robachu1 My wife and I love Nojiri. We try to reserve one of the small private "tatami" rooms whenever we dine there. It is like eating at a Japanese "onsen" Spa Resort except no hot spring, but the food is just as good.
We usually choose one of the full course selections on the menu. They include a salad, sashimi dish, beef dish, tempura dish, miso shiru, grilled seafood (fish, shellfish, etc.), and various other delicacies along with your choice of white rice or rice with native mountain vegetables called "sansai".
