From Harajuku to Shimokitazawa
Some Harajuku shoppers also drop by Shimokitazawa and both places are not so far to each other. To get to Shimokitazawa the first thing you would do is to find a subway station called MEJI-JINGUMAE. It is not difficult to find because it is close to HARAJUKU station and it is on its way to MEIJI SHRINE and YOYOGI PARK. Then get on the train bound for YOYOGI UEHARA(most trains, however are directed to some of the stations in ODAKYU LINE). At SHIMOKITAZAWA be sure to pay excess fare between YOYOGI UEHARA to SHIMOKITAZAWA or you won't be able to get out from the station. To do that you need to get out of the right exit (of Odakyu Line). There is a compound ticket from JINGUMAE to SHIMOKITAZAWA for 260 yen(otherwise 280 yen). If you also visit MEIJI SHRINE then you can get out from Western Approach(NISHI-SANDO) and get trains at SANGUBASHI station and train fee is only 120 yen.
Setagaya Line is short(5 kilometers in length) and slow commuter train between Sanganjaya and Shimotakaido, also a station of Keio Line. When you get on the train you have to pay the flat fare of 140 yen (70 yen for children). If you have either Suica or Pasmo card touch the card to the blue area. If you have Setamaru card touch the card on different card reader (photo #5).
SHOIN-JINJA: closest station to Shoin Shrine enshrining Shoin Yoshida.
SETAGAYA and KAMIMACHI: Closest stations to visit Setagaya Rag Market(Boroichi)
MIYANOSHITA: Closest station to visit Gotokuji Temple.
YAMASHITA: The station to change trains to Odakyu Line Gotokuji station.
Getting to Sangenjaya
For tourists who want to visit Gotokuji temple or enjoy the Setagaya "Boroichi" Rag Market event, they must first get to Sangenjaya where Setagaya line starts. From the areas west from Tokyo such as Hamamatsu, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, get off the Shinkansen Super-Express at Shinagawa station. From Shinagawa station first get to the exit for local train and change trains to Yamanote Loop bound for Shibuya and Shinjuku. Change trains at Shibuya and take Den-en Toshi Line. At Shibuya station Den-en Toshi Line and Hanzomon metro line share the same line. Get off at Hachiko exit of Shibuya station and take the Den-en Toshi line bound for Chuo Rinkan. Sangenjaya is the second station from Shibuya.
