Shinjuku Warnings and Dangers

A Japanese chappie told my hubby that he wouldn't go to Shinjuku as the place was crawling with....

1) Illegal Chinese, African and Middle Eastern workers
2)pickpockets
3) sleazy prostitutes
4) God knows what a fuddy duddy can think of...

..Well, that chap is more than 60 years old so you can figure out whether I took his advice.

Nothing bizarre happened to me when I strolled around the area. Even Kabuki-cho for all its sleeze, was quite safe. I was disappointed admitedly by its lack of sleeze.The red-light area of Singapore ( Geylang ) is worse than this...

The Shinjuku and Tokyo sub-way stations are the 2 main sub-way stations in Tokyo city with many lines running in different directions and these station are really very huge so you have to be very careful not to ge lost. Look at the English signages and maps careful to find your way around. Ask the locals if you have to, just tell them the place you want to go and they will help you. Try not to use complicated English, just use single simple words (e.g. just say "Shinjuku instead of "Can you tell me where is Shinjuku station?")

Natural Disasters Tip: Miyake-jima Island is located at 175 kilometers south of Tokyo and the last eruption took place in 2010. Unless massive scale eruption occur, volcanic ashes will never reach Tokyo. But during 2000 eruption toxic sulfur oxides did come as far as Tokyo though not the level to cause health problems. It might disrupt sea and aerial transportation between Izu Islands or Ogasawara Islands depending on the scale of the eruption. Izu Peninsula is closer to the volcano so it might be affected somehow.
