Narita must see!

I think the temple in Narita is worth a half day visit! I found it most interesting! There are so many temples, they never seemed to end! And in such a beautiful garden setting, too! The walk to the temple from the train station was very interesting, too! With quaint old buildings and quaint shops and restaurants, including one where you could watch live eels being sliced in half lengt-wise after their heads are shopped off and the body pinned down! Yikes! ;-)

Learn to make sushi with a sushi master!
snazz55 profile photo
snazz55 1 reviews

The other day i participated in a sushi making class in Tokyo with 2 Italian guys. I found this class through a company called HIS Experience. The cost of the tour was a bit expensive but it was worth every yen! We learnt how to make nigiri sushi (small block of rice with raw fish eg tuna, salmon on top), temaki (cone shaped seaweed filled with rice & vegies and/or fish inside), mekka (cylinder shaped, seaweed contains fish, egg etc), small cucumber rolls etc. After putting so much love and care into the sushi preparation, the highlight was definitely eating all the sushi you made! After that, the master makes you some sushi and you can really taste the difference between yours and his- i guess, practice makes perfect!

This program was so special as it was in a cute little sushi bar (izakaya) in the middle of Tokyo with a Japanese sushi MASTER- an experience a normal tourist would not usually have! There was a translator there who translated what he was saying- this made the experience even more authentic. The teacher of this class was very special- he was very energetic which gave the class an amazing feeling.

i recommend this class to anyone travelling around Japan. Most tourists are so excited to eat sushi when coming to/in Japan, so why not LEARN from a true Japanese master whilst here?- then you can make it when you get home!

Fuji TV

Pick up a paper bag with Fuji TV mascot at level 1, and get the stamps at various locations to make it a souvenir for yourself or relative / friend.

Take pictures with variety show backdrops at Studio Promenade and pretend u are the host!

Then go to Sphere Observation Deck (500 yen for adults and 300 yen for children) at 24th level to take bird eye view of Daiba area.

A reflection of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum

Since I'm on the topic of museums, there are 2 others in the heart of Ueno Park.

I tried visiting one, the TOKYO METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART but alas it was closed by the time I got there!
Just next to the Ueno Zoo. U can't missed it if u managed to find the zoo.
I was at the zoo & had a most wonderful time.
Just couldn't believe what I managed to stumble upon! Simply amazing!
More about that later...

Remember to go early in the day!

I said earlier there are 3 museums in Ueno Park vicinity.
In fact, there are 5!
The other 2 are ROYAL UENO MUSEUM & NATIONAL SCIENCE MUSEUM.
But these 2 are more conspicuous; so you've to look hard for them.

TOKYO NATIONAL MUSEUM has to be the biggest of the 5.
Its official website provides a great deal of information on the exhibits & the layout of the museum.
Check it out at www.tnm.jp if you are interested in what's most current.
Japanese Arts & Treasures are on display in this museum.
Next time I'm here, I've to visit it!

Mori Tower

Thanks to Atsuko for showing me around the latest addition & trendiest spot in Tokyo...
ROPPONGI HILLS!

Essentially, a city within the city!
Roppongi Hills was completed last Spring & encompassed the Mori Arts Center, Grand Hyatt Tokyo, residential apartments, offices, gardens, shops & restaurants.

It is a great place to be both in the day & romantic at night.
If you can manage the time, head to the top of the tower for a view of the city!
I haven't had the chance but will definitely go on my next visit!

Tokyo Tower from Roppongi Hill

Well, I was up in TOKYO TOWER almost 10 years ago & wasn't really keen on going there again. But as luck would have it, we got a glimpse of it in the night when we were at Roppongi Hills, the trendiest addition to the Roppongi District.

Tokyo Tower looks tiny from here though in actual fact it is 333 meters high.
It is modelled after Eiffel Tower of Paris & is 13 m taller.
Completed in 1958, Tokyo Tower serves as a TV & broadcast antenna.
It was said that if the weather is good, you can even get a glimpse of Mt. Fuji from here!

For more interesting facts about Tokyo Tower, check out it's official website at TokyoTower.co.jp.
