Dont whatever you do blow your nose in public, its very bad!! try and hold it, or if it happens say sorry
Dont stick chopsticks into rice, it represents death
At some places dont forget to take off shoes, the line of shoes at the front should be a clue
Dont get aggressive or angry, the japanese unless drunk will rarely show this

Don't be daunted by the huge crowds using the trains in Tokyo. We have all seen how packed the trains are either in photos, in media, etc. No worries, they have a cool system!

While there we have not felt inconvenienced at all as the Japanese are very efficient and courteous people. After getting off carriages, they automatically get on/stay on the left side of the escalators/walkways. This allows for those who are rushing to go so they can use the rightside of the laneway/escalators, etc. They folllow this strictly!

Etiquettes and Behaviors: Hot Towels for Washing Before Meal
Don't be surprised if you receive a hot towel before being served, this is to be expected. Just whipe your hands with the towel, it is meant to clean your hands before the meal, however, most restaurents understand that many do not know what the towels are for and surely won't be offended.

Etiquettes and Behaviors: Blowing your nose
Don't do it in public. Apparently, it's really rude. And if you do have to wipe, don't put your kleenex back in your bag or pocket. That's really gross.

Etiquettes and Behaviors: Tipping and gratuity
Gratuity is already added into the bill. Don't tip, it might be considered offensive.

Another note, the service would probably garner HUGE tips in America. The service is quite excellent.

Don't hesitate to shout to your server to gain their attention when you want something.

Etiquettes and Behaviors: List of general tips
Here is a short reference list of some do's and Dont's

    Do:

    1. Take your shoes off when necessary. Make sure your shoes are taken off and properly placed in a ' ready to exit position'

    2. Slurp noodles.

    3. Try and practice a few Japanese phrases to help get around.

    Do not:

    1. Tipping is NOT a custom here. Taxi, Bell people, restaurants etc.It is not to say that you can't or shouldn't --it just isn't customary.

    2. Eat and walk. Drink and walk.

    3. Pass food with chopsticks.

Etiquettes and Behaviors: The Almost Strange Level of Trust in People?
I found this odd, especially when going through the subway stations. There were few guards around when I was going through the subways, so much so that you could have easily gotten through the barriers with ease without paying a dime to ride. I don't recommend this because you could be caught and I never tried to not pay, but you could easily run in behind someone else dropping their ticket to get out of the subway and let yourself out too. I'm just suprised people don't get watched more closely?

    Say no to fraud :)

Etiquettes and Behaviors: Westerners, You Don't Need to Tip!
I had someone run out of a bar after me when I left a nice tip, I had forgotten that you do not need to leave a tip for the waiters and waitresses in restaurents, they almost don't know what to do with it sometimes. I was wondering why I kept getting weird looks the first few days I was there! LOL

Etiquettes and Behaviors: Show as much chest hair as possible
If you don't have any chest hair, maybe go out and get some extensions. People with hair all over their body are likely to get more attention than those without.
