Shibuya: Downtown architecture
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you're into architecture, check out the ecletic buildings of Shibuya. The one shown below is a good example. There is no limit to creativity in Tokyo !!!

Shinjuku: The ultimate Tokyo experience - Syonben Yokocho
  • Tip Rating:
  • Shonben means "p*ss" in Japanese. I don't know how this little alley jammed with bunch of little Izakayas (Japanese style pub) and restaurants is called like so. Perhaps some drunken businessmen do their business on this alley. There is no doubt to say the whole alley looks cluttered and grim and no where near as frilled or polished but there is something in the air that I love so much here not to mention the food.

People who come here is another great thing about this alley. Once you get to know the people who gather here, you could hear the wickedest stories like nowhere else.

If you are totally not into the idea of eating anything from this alley, it is worth a peek since this alley seems it has stopped ticking the time away…since 1950.

    Directions to Shonben Yokocho:

Go out from the east exit towards Studio ALTA. Turn left at the intersection. You will see the alley sort of under the railroad trucks.

Parks, Yards, Gardens and Squares: Graveyard
  • Tip Rating:
  • North of the Ueno park is one of the best kept graveyards we encountered in Japan. The colorful red and green trees between the tombstones make such nice pictures....

Under the high skyscrapers in Shinjuku we found this tiny fleamarket. Locals sold everything from shoes and clothes to books and statues.
The fleamarket was one level below streetlevel in front of the Mitsui building.
    We visited on a saturday.

    Experience: Get your hair cut
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you are picky about your hair, one experience you should definitely do when in Tokyo is get your hair cut.
It is expensive (2500 - 5000 yen), but I can guarentee you have never had an experience like it before.
Not only do you get your hair cut with meticulous care, but you will get a brief back and/or scalp massage, hot towels on your head and face, a warm lather shave and an eyebrow trim.
Most places have pictures to order your hair style from, so don't sweat it to much.

Tokyo Stock Exchange: A business lookout
  • Tip Rating:
  • Not many people knows you can visit Tokyo's stock exchange market building, for free!
It is not a remarcable touristic spot, but you can spend 30 minutes walking by the empty futuristic corridors, while brokers are "playing" from their homes and offices: yes, there's nobody inside, but a few stock controllers and the guys of some specialized TV chanels... It looks like that science-fiction films with a cold computer brain controlling their lives... but you'd better see it on your own!

  • At a streetcorner in the Ginza area there is a small statue of the coicorin. This statue is supposed to bring good luck if you pet it. There are certain areas to pet. For instance the stumic if you want to loose weight, or the head to find a lost love.
