    Yakitori Express: Japanese 'Satay'
  • Tip Rating:

  • Yakitori
Barbecued chicken meat, giblets, leeks, shiitake mushrooms, green peppers, ginkgo nuts, small quail eggs etc. on a skewer
    are served at "yakitoriya".
Yakitoriya can easily found near the station and usually filled with salaried workers and university students. Yakitoriya consist
of only five to eight stools pushed up against a counter.
You sit around a counter with other customers and watch the chef grill your choices over charcoal oven. All the items are seasoned with tare (sauce) or salt, so when you order, you have to say whether you want the items grilled with sauce or with salt.

Useful Phrases at Yakitori-ya (Yakitori shop)

    1) Shou niku wo shio de (kudasai)
Boneless chicken meat with skin, with salt, please.

    2) Shou niku wo tare de (kudasai)
Boneless chicken meat with skin, with sauce, please.

    3) Shou niku, negima, sunagimo wo zenbu shio de (kudasai)
Boneless chicken meat with skin, chicken pieces and leek, gizzards, all with salt, please.

    4) Shou niku wo tare de, negima, sunagimo wo shio de (kudasai)
Boneless chicken meat with skin, with sauce and chicken pieces and leek, gizzards with salt, please.

    5) Oaiso onegai shimasu
    Check, please.

Torigin: Great Yakitori experience hidden away in Tokyo
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Small, traditional and reasonably priced Yakitori restaurant with English menu and English speaking staff, whilst it doesn't look much outside to look at the food and service was excellent. The bill amounted to $16 per head and this included the most expensive bottle of red wine on the menu, 8 skewers of yakitori between us and Kamameshi (steamed rice with chicken at 800 yen which was plenty for two people and there were other options if you prefer the rice mixed in with something other than chicken).

It opens at 5pm and we arrived just after and already customers were flowing in. Always a good sign as well when all the other customers are Japanese. We were also brought green tea afterwards and the staff were happy with our efforts to order in Japanese.

Recommended in Lonely planet or otherwise it is unlikely we would have not come across it due to it's location down a little alley way.

Would have eaten there again but unfortunately only discovered it on our last night but was a very pleasant way to spend our last evening in Tokyo.

    It was all really good

    Japanese Foods,of course!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Display Food - These artistic creations were present at the entrance of most restaurants. Although the purpose of these appetizing looking plastic replicas was to attract the Japanese public, they are actually a great help to tourists who do not speak the language. Often, most travellers simply point to what they wanted!

The restaurant sells only one thing, grilled eel on the rice, or the unajuu. However you will never forget the sauce on the eel and the rice.

    Unajuu of course.

Homework's: The best burger in Hiro-o 5-1-20, Tokyo!!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • They prepare delicious burguers and sandwiches with a delicate Japanese touch. A bottle chilled Japanese white wine ( Santa Carolina -uh?-) goes for the cost of two beers...And, hey!, it combined well.

    Homework's: Pic of the interior
  • Tip Rating:
  • I said hamburger are the main thing here, but who knows. We have been in economical recesion for quite a while. Perhaps when you come and visit it will be a shoes-shop. In that case, do not hesitate and ask for soft shoes...It could take you the whole day to eat them.

But look wha tI want to really say is that if you are alone there is this bar-like counter were you can be seated in a blink. So, do not wait till they ask you, go and tell them youar alone that she left you and that youare desesperate. Do not cry...Remember: men do not cry!!!

Hambuerger, shoes, and who knows...If ti becomes a Pachiko Parlor you will be eating steel balls.

Sweets Forest: If you like dessert, u sure won't want to miss it~
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Everyone should know.. Japan is a dessert lovers' paradise. Everywhere u go.. u can see cake shops, dessert cafes and traditional japanese okashi shops.

And this sweet forest is ideal for dessert lovers - with 6 different dessert located in a well decorated, relaxing environment, where u can choose from all of those really good looking cakes and traditional Japanese okashi.

Unfortunately we went there on Sat and it was soooo crowded!! And it really ruined my mood to eat.. so.. go there on a week day.. and you should be able to enjoy the real joy of the dessert and the great environment.

I had a mascaphone cheese cake which was very good... and then a japanese sticky stick rice thing with cheese dressing over it.. which was also very delicious!

    Kaiten-sushi (translates to Kaiten-sushi)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Going back home after a hectic day in the capital of the Empire ( I am not talking about Washington DC). Chances to get home by dinner are low...Indulge to a good sushi and one(hehehe!) cold beer in this place. Prices are reasonably reasonable for us, men and women working in the Archipelago

Maguro is good. Katsuo is great. Iwashi tataki is yummi. Inari is sweet. Cold Beer is cold. Sake is fine.

After the tour around in the world's largest fish market, have the very freshest sushi for breakfast -- you can choose among lots of places you'll pass on the way to Tsukiji Station.

Just don't leave with out going to one.
