 | Tokyo *Shopping Area > Harajuku / Omotesando Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 11 | | Takeshita is like paradise for the consumption-loving Japanese teenagers. It is a little street open only for pedestrians, 400 m long, with all kinds of shops aimed mainly at teenagers. Many western designers get their ideas from Japan and Takeshita-dôri is regarded as one of the greatest hotbed for new trends that vanish as fast as they come. Right now Takeshita-dôri is full of HipHop-stores more fashionable than the ones in America. Additionally rock-, gothic-, accessory-, shoe-, second hand and cosplay shops can be found as well. Strolling around this street is definately a must-do for visitors of Tokyo.
HipHop-Outfits, Alternative-, Gothic-, Hard-Rock and many more styles of clothes.
Takeshita-dôri is comparatively cheap. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Takeshita-dôri is right in front of Yamanote Harajuku station.

This is a famous shopping street catering to the trendy people. It is directly across from the entrance of JR Harajuku Station on the Yamamote Line.
There are a lot delicious crepe stalls and coffee shops lining this street. Nearby Omotesando (the famous tree lined street in Harajuku) has many other eateries, but quite expensive. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Opposite of JR Harajuku Station.

I was thinking it would be just for kids... but I was wrong. It's full of cute toys and interesting things that amuse adult as well some of the stuffs I believe made for adult. It has 5 or 6floors that each floor run as a different theme. It’s highly recommended to who are interested in Japanese toys and amine, of course there are a lot of Hello Kitty too or just looking around is pretty amazing. I guarantee that you would forget time like everytime I do.

Situated at the intersection of Omotesando-dori and Meiji-dori, the cylinder like shopping mall packed with trendy teenagers and 20-something shoppers. La Foret is a multi-storey department store houses the most fashionable independent shops as well as big Japanese labels. You may not like shopping but still this is the only department store you must visit in Tokyo. Here you will see the trend for the next season and what people wear etc. As a shopoholic, it’s an equally exciting experience to see what’s going on around me. I always like people watching and to feel how I become and to compare our differences when I am amongst the others in unfamiliar places. I had this experience when I was in La Foret, the largest store in Harajuku.
1. UK high-street label Top Shop and Top Men. It is quite a small shop and prices are marginally but understandably higher than in the UK. 2. The women shoe shop in the basement, I bought 2 pairs of ankle boots here – couldn’t believe my eyes when I found out how cheap they were! Don’t remember the name though but it’s situated in the corner.
Top Shop/Top Men - more expensive than average. Shoe shop - very cheap! Around 5000 yen for a pair of ankle boots. The shops located in Takeshita Street contain endless fashion. Whatever type of person you would like to be, you can buy clothes to create that person. From goth to cute cartoon fashion, it is all was all very exciting for me The shops in Takeshita Street are very small, so be prepared to squeeze and also be patient!
I bought mini skirt with layers of petticoats, hats, knee high socks, bright coloured stockings and goth jumpers! I surely will stand out back home! Leave a Comment

A mecca for children but this popular toy shop is also for all the young at hearts! A multi-storey toy shop located on Omotesando-dori opposite the Oriental Bazaar, Kiddy Land sells all the latest toys, games and quirky fun stuff! The merchandises on the ground floor ranging from sushi key-rings, hello kitty phone charms to electronical bugs are suitable for all ages. It’s definitely an inspiring place to find something cute to bring home with!
Ask your child.

Surely it can’t be so cheap for a kimono in a shop on Omotesando!! Because of the touristy looking shop front, I was a bit skeptical at first when my boyfriend took me there. I had never been before but he had last year in where he bought some chopsticks and beautiful hand-painted pottery cups. It is a one-stop shop to satisfy your Japanese craze! They sell everything from handicrafts, sake cups, paintings, fans, old fabrics, t-shirts to furniture! All are very beautiful, non-tacky and come with a reasonable price tag! They have a section selling second hand kimonos. I tried on this beautiful summery orange colour silk kimono with hand-sewn embroidery and couldn’t part with it! At a price of 8000 yen, I imagined I have in my hand this kimono was once belonged to a famous geisha from Kyoto. Even though it’s used but it looks as good as new to me! One thing which puzzled me - could it be because it is a tourist shop on Omotesando, the shop assistants were not as friendly and polite, or in fact they felt like they could be themselves amongst all the foreigners?
We also bought a set of rice bowls, a few sake cups, a painting and some souvenirs for friends and naturally making this the last stop of the day with all things carried back to the hotel! They also have beautiful thick silk belts (those you wear with your kimono) you can use as a table runner!
A set of rice bowls - 2000 yen, painting in a tube - 2000 yen, kimono - 6000 - 15000 yen Leave a Comment

Omotesando should form part of your itinerary if you decide to go to Yoyogi Park on a Sunday. You will reach Omotesando by walking through Takeshita-dori and Urahara. It’s a big wide street full of the most expensive designer label such as the houses of Dior, Prada, Burberry as well as Omotesando Hills which was a stylish shopping mall opened in 2006. I didn’t spend any time to visit any of these shops since I found the little independent shops in Urahara which were much more interesting and I always like to support locally, nevertheless all these palatial buildings are like X’mas presents wrapped in glossy papers – they definitely add sparks to Ometesando. However, personally there are 4 places which are worth visiting, they are La Foret Department Store, Kiddy Land, Oriental Bazaar and the French cake shop Peltiers. You will find my comments on them separately under the shopping and restaurant sections. Walking straight through Omotesando for about 20 minutes is another trendy area - Aoyama. You will find the top Japanese designer clothes shops such as Comme des gargon and the concept store Loveless in here.
Anything you can afford and want to get!
