Airport <=> Mid-City: To Tokyo
The airport limousine is very easy and convenient. It costs about the same but they drop you off at your hotel. All the stops are also displayed in english. They help you on and off with your luggage as well.

If you are arriving late and just want to get to your hotel, definitely take this! Its right inside the airport before leaving. Buy a ticket and they will tell you what time the bus is leaving.

    A yen saving tip to travelers to Tokyo: For
    those with more time than money, take the limited express Keisei Line from Narita Airport to Ueno (which will connect you to the Tokyo subway) for only 1,000
    yen (Narita Express, Keisei Skyliner, and shuttle bus--~3,000 yen--are about double that price). It ll take about 75 minutes--less than 20 minutes later than the faster
    options.

    Airport <=> Mid-City: Keisei Skyliner to Ueno
    In addition to the Narita express, the Keisei company offers the Skyliner to Ueno station and is somewhat cheaper than the Narita express.

    It may be more convenient depending on what part of the city you are going to.

  • Narita Airport to Tokyo

    If you are going to Tokyo from Narita Airport and you do not have a JR pass. Use the Keisei Railway. The Skyliner cost 1920 JPY and takes 56 minutes and equip with comfortable seats. The Limited Express cost 1000 JPY and takes 71 minutes and equip with the local subway type seats. You connect to other trains at Nippori or subway at Ueno station. You will always have seat if you start out at the end of the line but beware that if you are riding this train in the morning or at night in winter time, I can almost guarantee that your legs and bottom will be cooked at the end of the 71 minutes trip since the heaters are under the seat.

    Airport <=> Mid-City: Take the Narita Express!
    The Narita Express runs from Narita International Airport to Tokyo Station, and Shinjuku Station--and back. I most recently took it from Shinjuku Station to the airport, and it cost about 3000 yen. Tickets can be bought at JR ticket offices...though I bought mine at the travel office in the Keio Plaza Hotel!

    This form of travel can be much faster than the alternative, the buses that run between the hotels and the airport. The train doesn't have to contend with rush hour! The time it takes for transit between Shinjuku and the airport is roughly an hour.

    Airport <=> Mid-City: The cheapest way from Narita Airport to Tokyo
    The cheapest way to get from Narita Airport to far side of Tokyo (e.g. Shinjuku) will cost you ¥1260. The nearest part of Tokyo from the airport costs ¥1100 (e.g. Akihabara) by this same suggested route. The passage is a little confusing at first because you have to make a transfer, between 2 railways owned by different companies. It's also good of you don't have much luggage with you as you will have to climb staircases with them. The journey takes about 1.5 hours which is on average. The faster and direct routes on fast trains/ express buses can cost twice or more of that.

    There are 2 railway companies that you need to know - JR and Keisei. (and the Tokyo Metro is something else.)

    The route goes:
    At Narita Airport Terminals 1 / 2 - Buy a ticket to Funabashi (ON THE KEISEI line) this will cost you ¥720. Wait for the LIMITED EXPRESS trains (this one stops at lesser stations, so you will get there to Funabashi faster).

    Then at Funabashi you have to EXIT the station, while keeping a lookout for the sign that shows directions to the JR station at Funabashi. Once you are out, walk to your right. Surely there will be many other Japanese making journey too to the other station. You will see the JR station across the road.

    From JR Funabashi, you then buy the ticket that stops at your final destination in Tokyo. The example here illustrates Shinjuku (this is on the furthest side of Tokyo) which costs ¥540. Other places should cost lesser.

    Once you are in Tokyo, the JR takes you faster around the city while the metro makes more smaller stops in between stations.

    Funabashi is quite bustling so you can grab what you need here anyway.

    If you are making the reverse trip from Tokyo to Narita Airport, take note!
    There are 3 stations with Funabashi in it : HIGASHIFUNABASHI , FUNABASHI, and NISHIFUNABASHI. Remember that you need to alight at FUNABASHI and not the other 2.

    Airport <=> Mid-City: The cheapest way into Tokyo
    The local train on the Keisei line is the cheapest way into Tokyo, costing 1000 yen. It goes from Ueno all the way out to both terminals of Narita airport.

    If you don't have a JR pass, and time is not an issue, it may well be worth getting.

    There are several options for traveling the frustratingly long distance between Narita Airport and central Tokyo and vice versa, although not all are practical. Taxi or limo service is an option if you're a multi-millionaire, but totally unreasonable for anyone else. Package tours may provide bus transfers, but that doesn't help you if you're free traveling. Besides, with Tokyo's notorious traffic it could take you hours to reach the city/airport by vehicle. You could take a local metro train line, but it probably makes a thousand stops before reaching your destination and is quite uncomfortable.

    So, if you want a relatively affordable (the key word here being "relatively"), fast, and comfortable way into the city, the best option is the Narita Express JR Line. Trains depart from Narita and major stations in the city every hour or half hour at peak times. It takes roughly an hour to cover the distance from the airport to Tokyo station and 90 minutes to Shinjuku station. The seating is assigned when you purchase your ticket, which can be done at the airport in the arrival hall after you clear customs or from the automatic vending machines in the city stations. The standard one-way fare is 2940YEN (~$29US) to/from Tokyo station, which may sound quite expensive... that is unless you've actually spent any time in Tokyo! $$$

    Airport <=> Mid-City: Airport liner
    There are several public transfer plan from Narita International Airport to mid town Tokyo.
    I recommend to use JR Airport liner. cost around JPY 1600 and to reach the Tokyo central station.
    On the other hand, the airport limousine bus cost JPY 3000, NRT Express costs 3,000+, Keisei ky liner cost JPY 2000. Keisei line Express train cost JPY 1,000 though, the train just go Ueno station or Nippori station and not convenient to chnage the train.
