Mt. Daisen is a dormant volcano in western Tottori-ken, and is a beautiful spot off the "beaten track" of most western tourists. It's lovely if you are into skiing, and is quite a gorgeous spot for hiking - very beautiful views of the Daisen-Oki National Park. Historically, Daisen has been worshipped as a sacred mountain, and is the home of Daisen-ji temple (built around 720AD). All in all, definitely worth a visit if you want a taste of the "true" Japan!
