transportation in Kyoto

by mindian

Kyoto is a quite big city and there are a lot of things to see. I dont know where you want to go and see in Kyoto, but if you are interested in many places, you should hire a taxi or a bicycle. taxi will cost you, but finding the right place is really hard in Kyoto and each sightseeing places locate separatedly. You shouldnt count on buses. they wont come to the bus stop on time, so you will lose your precious time.

Bullet Train

by yurxlnc

The fast Sinkansen bullet train makes it possible for a tourist to see a lot of Japan easily. The trains are comfortable, clean ,and fast. Maybe it's not the best way to see the actual countryside, but the trains are very convenient.

What is the Japan rail pass

by cheesecake17

The Japan Rail Pass is a highly cost effective rail pass for foreign visitors to Japan, providing UNLIMITED travel on the nationwide network of Japan Railways (JR). It is recommended to anybody, who is planning to visit several regions of Japan. JRP is valid on almost all trains on the nationwide network of JR (Japan Railways), including urban train lines and the shinkansen (bullet trains), as well as on many JR bus lines and the JR Miyajima ferry. Pass holders are also eligible for free seat reservations. NOT covered by the Japan Rail Pass is the NOZOMI, the fastest of several train categories on the Tokaido Shinkansen. the JRP IS NOT valid for couchettes and private rooms on night trains and other special compartments. Naturally, the JRP is not valid on any train operated by companies other than the Japan Railways (JR).There are also a few JR trains, which partially run on the tracks...

FERRIES

by cheesecake17

Ferries can be significantly cheaper than any other form of public transport, especially on longer routes, and they are often quicker and more comfortable than long-distance buses or trains. Major routes are from Tokyo/Kawasaki to Tohoku (Sendai) and Hokkaido, and Osaka/ Kobe to Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa. For example it costs about ..16,000 return from Osaka to Miyazaki in southern Kyushu (12 hours), half the price of the train or plane, and about 30% cheaper than the bus........Facilities are usually spartan compared to the luxurious Channel and North Sea ferries of Europe, but there are carpeted areas with free blankets and pillow, where one can bed down for the night.Ferries do NOT offer a saving if you take a car with you, though. They usually work out the same as taking the highway and paying for the gas and tolls.(click) on the website below for Port / List of Transportation...

How to travel by japanese bullet train..

by cheesecake17

CENTRAL JAPAN RAILWAY COMPANY(click)1. Go to the major Japan Railway (JR) stations such as Tokyo, Ueno, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Hakata, and more.2. Then to a JR ticket counter called Midori-no-mado-guchi which can be recognized by a green sign.3. Purchase the ticket to your destination. You need to pay bullet train express fares in addition to the regular fare for the distance.4. If you want to reserve your seat, ask at this time. You can do this for a small additional fee.5. Check the departure time and the number of platform of your train on the display board.6. Go to the correct JR Shinkansen gate and hand your ticket to the officer or insert your ticket in the automatic gate.7. When you get to the platform, go to under the number plate of the car indicated on your ticket, if you reserved a seat.8. If you don't reserve a seat in advance, go under the number plates of...

Use of JR Pass

by munapong

(a) Get a JR Pass (Need to purchase the Exchange Order in your country first) if you need to travel a lot via the Railway(b) Know the name of the railway line that you are travelling - this will help u decide which platform to use e.g. Yamatoe Line(c) Write down on note pad the name of the stations u are going and u can show the note to the ticket office to make reservation of seats for NON-LOCAL lines e.g. Tokyo to Kyoto Shin.(d) The method of using the JR Pass can be summarised in the picture attached. I got it from the JR Pass Exchange Office at Yaesu Entrance, Tokyo Station.

Travelling from East to West - JR Pass MUST!!

by heywinks

Definitely get the JR pass if you plan on spending at least a week in Japan and you are travelling far distances (ie, Kyoto to Tokyo). You'll get your money's worth!Signs are in Japanese, English, and Korean. There are tickers in each cabin displaying the next stop and also what stops are after that (in Japanese and English). An announcement is made as the train approaches the next station. When you get onto the platform there will be signs leading you to your next train. Japan has the most user-friendly train system in the world, and it's ON-TIME! You won't have any problems. :)
