This is a dam built in mass scale which was constructed in the mid-1960's, and is one of the most popular destination sights in Japan.
You will arrive here by cable car or trolley bus running under a mountain, and will walk across in the Alpine Route Journey.

Near the highway bus/trolley bus station can be seen Mikuriga Lake. There is perpetual snow here. There are many wide open walking spaces here. I'd recommend to spend most of your time here, and time your onward journey to avoid the heavy people rush.

Once going through the various modes of transport and people traffic to get here, it is easy to relax, even though there are many other people, it is wide enough to enjoy your own space here. It is also cool in the midsummer as well.
