temple of sacred mountain, Dewa Sanzan

by lowailing138

At the top of Mt. Haguro is the Dewa Sanzan Shrine, a lacquered building with the largest thatched roof in Japan. One can visit the shrine on foot, to start the climb, go to the Haguro Centre, the route consists of 2,446 stone steps, at the foot of the steps is the graceful Goju-no-to, a five storey pagoda dating from 14th century. there is a tea house over looking the Mogami river valley. it is less fun to go by toll road.

Bungy jump in Asahi-mura

by Teledude

Ok this place is tiny but it has the only permanent bridge bungy jumping in Japan. It's gorgeous (yes I stole it from an Oregon travel brochure but it fits) It's cool, lush green valleys and deep pools of water invite you to jump from the bridge. Ok, they don't really invite you to jump but there is a nature center at the entrance and the local winery is there as well with a good sampling of it's grapes which are very well known throughout the ken.

Kaminoyama Castle and Tsukioka Park

by kazuhr

The castle is in the park , where you can enjoy viewing Sakura (cherry blossoms). In mid-April they would be in full bloom every year. In a clead day , you can view panpramic view of Mt. Zaou.
