Take the circular bus to the pottery district, which is near the castle ruins. There are several large outlet shops where you can pick up pieces of all shapes and sizes

What to buy: Hagi pottery is amongst the best in Japan, buy a traditional tea ceremony bowl, a mug, a vase, small dishes and bowls, all are available. Items are not particularly cheap, but the quality is exquisite. They will wrap it carefully in the shop, but getting it all the way home is up to you!

What to pay: You can buy a small but beautiful bowl of reasonable quality for a few pounds at the bus station, but in the main factory shops expect to pay as much as you can affor
