If you want to try something different and also poisonous this is the place to eat on the edge :-)
Shimonoseki is responsible for 80 % of all of the Fugo caught in Japan and hence this is the capital of the Blow Fish.
Chefs have to have a special license to prepare the fish and even though I got a rush after eating several courses of it - I am still alive!

Favorite Dish: You get Fugo almost everywhere in the waterfront and other restaurants in town.
It is served as Soup, Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura and other dishes..

Fugu

Favorite Dish: This fish is actually poisonous and every year in Japan someone dies from consuming fugu that has been prepared incorrectly. The fugu chefs train for many years as apprentices before they are allowed to prepare the dish themselves in their own restaurant.

The best fugu restaurants in Japan are found here in Shimonoseki.

This delicacy doesn't come cheap though!! Expect to pay around 10,000 yen for a dish of Fugu Sashimi!

There are 100 of FUGU Restaurants: If you are in Shimonoseki you'll have to try FUGU!

Fugu is a blowfish and counts as a delicacy except that parts of it are horribly poisonous – poisonous enough to kill 30 people.

Cooks needs to have a licence which is checked every year. But still there are always at least one or two people dying each year because of FUGU.

Favorite Dish: I was told which kind of fish I just ate after finishing my dish. But I survived. The Cook must be good :)

Here in Japan you should always wait for a minute after someone ate the first piece before trying one yourself.
