A typical french brasserie in the earth of Almaty city !
Nice atmosphere, friendly people and tasty french food and alcohol !
Certainly the best food quality in Almaty.
Favorite Dish: For me definitively the best dish to eat is of course the authentic frog legs with parsley and garlic sauce !! Very tasty and so French !!
Also the horse steak rossini (with fois gras) is the perfect mix between the Kazakh and the French cooking !
For dessert - my favorite one is the hot cholocat pie !

kazakh "promised land" is "Zheruik", kind of kazakh dream i suppose, place where there is no wars, no famine, you are always welcome...it took 3 years to build it, surrounding the building are 12 stone figures, they said being protecting you from any danger, the interior itself is worth a visit, on the walls you can see reproductions of prehistoric drawings found in caves in Kazakhstan, different mosaics on the tables (they were using same marble as ordered for Vatican), all dishes are handpainted
about the food itself...please read my general tips
manty, kazy, sopra...
and for desert please order "khvorost" or "chak-chak" (pieces of dough fried in oil and dumped in honey)

We went to Mad Murphy's Pub for lunch. We sat outside on the porch under an umbrella. I had a good cheese burger and fries. I had my first taste of Russian beer(PUVO) in the form of a tasty Baltica.
I was told they have a jazz and rock band playing almost every Friday and Satuday night but we had missed out on that. They had other European cuisine and Holland and Irish beer on tap. There were pool tables inside as well.
Favorite Dish: CHEESE Burger, CHEESE Burger! and the BREWSKI!

This cafe is my favorite in Almaty. They have good coffee and the desserts are great too. The place is large with indoor and outdoor seating. They have full meals there and a bar. They also have WiFi and don't seem to mind if you spend hours in there on the internet, even if you've only ordered a coffee.
Really great place!
It's walking distance from the Ballet.
They have English menus and the price range is like 300-500 tenge for coffee drinks and 300- 800 for desserts (January 2011).

The terrace at the Line Brew is the place to be for dining out in the cool Almaty twilight.
The beer selection here is outstanding featuring Belgian beers. There was live music set in the middle of a sailing ship.
The food was excellent and service outstanding...highly recommended!
Favorite Dish: Belgian beer!

Relatively new place (opened in June'10) on Almaty's coffee map is always full since the very first days of work.
There are several reasons for such popularity:
- Very good place (though there are 2 other coffeeshops close to this place)
- Relaxing atmosphere and nice interior design
- Reasonable prices
- Good music
- Excellent service
- Plenty of tables outside in the summer
- Wi-Fi.
Probably the strangest thing about this place called "Coffeemania" is that it contains just 9 coffee items (400-500 tenge for latte) in the menu and i can't say i highly recommend to drink it because of way too mild taste to me(as for November'10). Anyway, there you can drink some tea (300/900 tenge, depends on size) or cocktails (both alcohol and alcohol-free drinks). They serve breakfasts beginning from 8AM. During all the day you can try their totally awesome salads (very generous serving, 800-1200 tenge), big baguette or ciabatta sandwiches with variety of fillings (nearly 10 types, 900-1000 tenge), wraps, some types of pasta (nearly 1100 tenge) and desserts (300-1300 tenge) of course.
Staff speaks at least basic English. English menu is also available.
In summer you can have a place outside, they provide a lot of additional tables, but in the evenings (especially Friday and Saturday) it may be hard to find a free place to have a seat.
Prices may vary, i just wanted to show the price range.
Favorite Dish: I do like salads there, especially with grilled beef.
Cherry danish rolls are among my favourites, i do love them here!
Pasta serving sizes are generous, i find it enough for a good dinner.
My friends usually order sandwiches and are always happy about their choice.

Just pretend any situation:
- You wanna relax after a day full of emotions with a pint of fresh beer.
- You'd love to enjoy a lunch for reasonable price
- You wanna listen to live music, dance and sing along to all-time-hits with everyone, get drunk and have a nice dinner
- All of the above.
The right choice for all these things is Pinta. Fresh beer, cocktails, awesome food, live music (Friday&Saturday after 9 PM), good service are found over there. The best thing is that the prices are reasonable and worth the quality offered.
Favorite Dish: Fresh beer is always awesome.
White gluhwein with a hint of orange warms up for the whole evening.
Mozzarella sticks with honey mustard sauce are tasty even without beer.
Every main course you order brings happiness to your stomach, it doesn't matter what you choose.

A nice coffeehouse with ''warm'' interior, awesome baristas and one of the best places to drink some coffee, tea or cocktails. Snacks and treats are available. Service is really nice.
Cool place to have a rest after a walk in the city center.
Favorite Dish: They make brilliant latte and some other special coffee drinks.
Rock'n'roll wrap is a worthy thing.
Desserts are always fresh and served with sweet sauses.

Reasonable pizzeria serves pasta, pizza and main dishes including chicken, beef and pork. It is located on Dustlyk Street that it seems attached to KIMEP building. They also serve real coffee such as Espresso or Americano. Next door is internet cafe run by Venezia. I had lunch here in Feb. 2007 and I had dinner here in Apr.2009. 10% service charge is subjective.

Rodem is located on Abylay Khan Street, 64, same side of TsUM on Abaylay Khan Street and several meters south from TsUM, and it is Korean cafe. Typical Korean foods are served with reasonable price. I went to Rodem in Feb.2007, then I repeated Apr.2009 for having dinner after shopping at TsUM.
